Designer Hicham Lahlou has been elected a member of the new Board of Directors of the elected Directors for the 60 years of the World Design Organization (WDO) for the period 2017-2019 following the first electronic vote in the history of the organization which took place as part of its 30th General Assembly at the United Nations Conference Center (ITCILO) in Turin, Italy.
This summit has seen 20 candidates from 4 corners of the world come forward; More than 150 organizations and national institutions of the world voted.
Hicham Lahlou will sit on the Board of Directors in early February 2018 at the WDO headquarters in Montreal, the first board of the year 2018 that will set the course and new leadership of WDO of the global design community for the coming 2 years.
It will bring Africa and the Mena Region within this historic institution.
A great recognition by his peers for his career and commitment to design in Africa and internationally.
The election was one of the highlights of a two-day event that drew a record number of members of the international design community who also saw the announcement of World Design Capital 2020, the adoption of World Design Agenda, the presentation of the World Design Medal to Hartmut Esslinger of Frogdesign, and the celebration of 60 years as a global body for industrial design.
WDO 30me AG also hosted international speakers from major corporations, cities and organizations that are already using design to solve some of the world’s most complex issues.
Luisa Bocchietto (the second female president to lead the organization since 1993-1995) will take over for the 2017-2019 mandate.
