UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner announced, on 7 February 2017, the appointment of Abdoulaye Mar Dieye as Assistant Secretary-General, Office for Policy and Program Support, UNDP as of 1er March 2018.
“Mar’s appointment comes at a critical time for UNDP as we strive to provide our partners and developing countries with more effective strategic advice to help them achieve their sustainable development goals,” he said. said Achim Steiner. “Mar brings to this position decades of experience in development policy as well as in-depth knowledge of UNDP, which should serve the organization in its evolution to meet the demands of a dynamic world in perpetual change”.
Mr. Dieye has held various high-level responsibilities within UNDP, including as Deputy Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Africa after being in turn as Chief of Staff and Director of the Executive Office. Prior to joining the United Nations system, Mr. Dieye had held several senior positions in the Senegalese civil service, including Head of the General Planning Division (1976-1982) and then Inspector General (1982-1984) in the Ministry. Plan and Cooperation.
A Senegalese national, Mr. Dieye graduated from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE-CESD) of the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) of Paris. An economist and statistician specializing in advanced mathematics, he also holds a master’s degree in development studies from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands.
