Marrakesh, a pioneering city in terms of environmental protection, has acquired Africa’s first self-service bicycle service on the occasion of the COP22, which it hosted in 2016. This offer complements a public transport service and effectively resolves 24h / 24 travel issues, for a measured investment for cities and at a cost adapted to the income levels of each inhabitant. Smoove is proud to support cities wishing to improve the quality of life of their citizens by offering ecological and economical mobility solutions. Since then, Tunis and Abidjan have expressed their desire to revitalize their public transport while rising to the global rank of green cities. This desire materialized in Lagos (Nigeria) where Smoove won a tender for the implementation of 200 self-service bikes in 2018. Smoove is part of a long-term process of urban and energy transformation in Africa.
French company, Smoove offers since 10 years innovative, smart and connected self-service bike solutions for the development of soft mobility. Today, Smoove is present in 28 cities, 14 different countries, including Morocco, for nearly 9 000 bicycles. In 2018, Smoove will exceed 30 000 bikes connected worldwide with the arrival of its flagship product: the Electric Assistance Bike (VAE) in Self-Service.
A revolutionary technical offer, hybrid, electric and connected.
The Smoove solution is a hybrid: a mechanical bike can be transformed into an electric bike by integrating a battery in the frame and incorporating a motor in the front wheel. The stations secure the bicycles and recharge the batteries of the pedelecs.
Equipped with the “Smoove box”, this embedded technology makes the bike intelligent and communicating. The authentication of the users is carried out thanks to a reader of the RFID cards of the public transport networks, the smartphones equipped with NFC or a simple code. This revolutionary onboard technology puts an end to saturated stations with the ability to park even if it is full, thanks to the unique “over-capacity” or “overflow” feature.
Smoove strives to offer a very high level of quality of service: ultra safe, durable bicycles designed for optimum comfort. The city and the operator retain complete control over the deployment and implementation of their offer with the possibility of modulating it as they please for a controlled and fluid public space.
- Connected to the digital era: Smoove box, information system (operations management, customer monitoring, operation monitoring) and a complete digital offer (website and mobile application).
- Patented triple safety: the “padlock fork” to secure the bike in the station, a neiman that blocks the steering and a cable built into the handlebars.
- Public space controlled: dense and modular stations, little civil engineering with sites on roads approved and controlled by the city services.
- Robust for urban public use: puncture resistant tires, frame and aluminum double wall rims with anti vandalism nuts.
- Optimum comfort of use: wheels 26 inches, comfortable and adjustable saddle and a customizable front basket.
Smoove wants to extend its urban mobility offer to other African cities. Municipalities and companies interested in a collaboration can contact Smoove to discuss a flexible offer, including technical solutions, but also support in the financing and operation of installed bicycle fleets.
Smoove becomes the world leader in shared electric bike systems integrated with urban mobility systems and thus contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions. With its connected offering, Smoove fits seamlessly into today’s and tomorrow’s intelligent and sustainable mobility.
