The Water Utility of the Year Water Utility of the Year Award was awarded Wednesday, May 23, to Senegalese Waters (SDE) at the African Utility Week Awards Ceremony in South Africa.
This distinction rewards the quality of the company’s management, the professionalism of its employees and the company’s pioneering approach in the context of a public-private partnership.
The trophy also crowns the performance of the SDE at the continental level following an evaluation by independent auditors.
Indeed, the company has managed to increase the rate of access to drinking water from 80% in 1996 to 98% in 2017, and the number of customers is 7 million in 2017. It is, moreover, considered one of the most successful water companies on the continent by a recent World Bank study.
SDE is also the first company to produce and distribute QSE certified water (Quality, Safety and Environment) on ISO and OHSAS standards in Africa.
According to Abdoul Ball, the CEO of the company, this award “is not just for the SDE. But a source of pride for all those working in the water sector who work in synergy, as well as for Senegal, which has been able to set up an institutional framework conducive to the development of urban hydraulics “.
As a reminder, Senegalese Water (SDE) ensures the production and distribution of drinking water in urban centers of Senegal since 1996.
