The Chinese giant CSCEC (China State Construction Engineering Corporation) has just won the market of the fourth bridge in Abidjan, a book that will link the popular town of Yopougon Plateau, the country’s business center.
The project was awarded following a limited international tender process, which Financial Afrik was able to consult the results published at the end of the week. Endowed with a loan of $ 263.7 million, a loan from the African Development Bank (ADB), the project will help relieve traffic between two major poles of activities and beyond facilitate the link between the parties north and south of the Ivorian capital.
With around two million inhabitants, Yopougon, Abidjan’s most populous municipality, is home to the country’s largest industrial area – a new, larger area is under construction in a nearby city. The Plateau, the economic center of the country, opens access to the port area and the southern part of Abidjan.
The project includes the construction of a 1.4 km structure, including a 0.794 km viaduct over Banco Bay, and 7 km of access roads and ramps. According to the technical file, this is a large-scale project that will leave Yopougon, span the Bay of banco to sub-district “Boribana” (a ramp is expected to reach the Boulevard Crossroads Peace / Sebroko, in the direction of Plateau) in the commune of Attécoubé, will extend until the famous boulevard Nangui Abrogoua in Adjamé (a tunnel is planned) before finishing at the level of the zone of Indénié.
The work should be launched in June or July for a period of 30 months.
China’s largest construction group and one of the largest companies in the sector worldwide, CSCEC has operated major infrastructure projects in Africa, mainly in Algeria. In Egypt, the group inherited a contract worth nearly $ 3 billion for the construction of the business center of New Cairo, the new capital of the country under construction.
