Ethiopian Airlines has launched since June 10 the first direct flights between Africa and Chicago, the third largest city in the United States, from its base at the Addis Ababa International Airport.
“Chicago will be our fourth destination in the US and our seventh in America (…) We will close a critical gap in air connectivity as our flights will be the only direct service between Chicago and Africa,” Tewolde Gebre-Mariam said. , CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines group, during the opening ceremony of the line on June 12 in the Ethiopian capital.
“Chicago is the hub of our Star Alliance partner United Airlines, and the flight will be done in collaboration with United to provide the best product to travelers from all over the United States, connecting 58 destinations in Africa,” said he adds.
As one of the major airlines in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines celebrated the anniversary of its 100th aircraft earlier this month. Last April, the company, certified four stars by SKYTRAX Global Airlines, was awarded the prize for “Best onboard catering service in Africa”.
