The national conference on the development and attractiveness of the territory opened Monday, July 09 at the Abdou Diouf international center of Diamniadio (forty kilometers of Dakar) in the presence of academics, sub regional and regional organizations, technical and financial partners and local and international experts in spatial planning and development.
The aim is to conduct in-depth discussions and propose concrete actions to consolidate the achievements, resolve the dysfunctions noted, ensure greater cohesion in the territorial development action and promote a better attractiveness of the national territory.
Organized by the Ministry of Territorial Governance, Development and Spatial Planning, this first edition will find ways and means to place land use planning at the heart of public policies in order to foster the emergence of territories. viable, competitive and attractive.
According to Macky Sall, who presided over the opening ceremony, “spatial planning is recognized as a lever for attractiveness and sustainable development”.
Thus, M.Sall recommends to the actors a reflection on “a reorganization of the architecture of the territories, a correction of the territories as well as the reinforcement of the competences of the local elected officials”.
To achieve this, the Senegalese head of state believes that “challenges must be met, among others, the ecological transformation, the intensification of private and public investment, social inclusion, equitable digital development”.
After two days of exchanges, the participants will have to find concrete answers to crucial issues such as the emergence of poles of development, the promotion of urban poles, the implementation of tools and instruments for the spatial planning, the financing of spatial planning and the sustainable development of the territory, the link between spatial planning and socio-economic planning.
