Arrived Monday, September 24, 2018 in New York for the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Togolese president, Faure Gnassingbé, is announced to take part in the works of the 2nd edition of the “One Planet Summit” which is held Wednesday.
Focusing on the theme “Accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, putting finance at the service of climate action”, this meeting is jointly organized by French President Emmanuel Macron, United Nations António Guterres, Jim Yong Kim from the World Bank, and Michael Bloomberg, the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Action. It will also bring together all the leaders and decision-makers involved in the fight against climate change.
Member of the International Solar Alliance initiated in 2015 by France and India, Togo launched, in June 2018, its new policy of solar electrification which aims, ultimately, to connect more than 2 million households to ‘energy solar.
“Togo is an exemplary member of the ASI because it has made one of the best electricity projection projection plans including solar. The country plans to connect all the population to electricity by 2030. This is a very concrete project with a very operational roadmap, “said Ségolène Royal, the special envoy of President Emmanuel Macron for the implementation of the Alliance at a round table of donors and investors organized in Lomé for the official launch of the new strategy of electrification.
