The Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) is holding its 33rd session from 30 October to 2 November 2018 in Tunis, during which participants will examine the structural development of North Africa and the entire continent.
Focusing on the theme of “the data revolution in North Africa to put data at the service of structural transformation”, the meeting will also enable stakeholders to address other development issues. They will essentially discuss the data revolution (big data, digital, etc.) so that they can help make the right public policy decisions.
The main objective of this initiative, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals and the 2063 Agenda of the African Union, is to find innovations and alternatives that will enable North Africa to sustainable development.
Composed of representatives of seven countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan and Tunisia), the CIE meets annually to discuss and discuss the economic and social conditions of development in North Africa but also to evaluate the plans. in this region.
Between challenge and challenge
At the opening ceremony, Lilia Hachem Nass, Director of the ECA Office in North Africa, suggested that Africa has a great challenge in terms of sustainable development. In a context of “trade war”, affecting global economic performance, Africa must find solutions to not be a victim of this new phenomenon of protectionism, she said.
Evoking the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECA), rich in 1.2 billion people and a GDP of 2.5 trillion dollars, the president of the Tunisian Union of Commerce and Handicrafts ( UTICA), Samir Majoul, emphasized that it will be a real challenge for regional strategic development.
