In its report of activities published on February 12, 2019, the National Airline Company of Cameroon (CAMAIR-CO) declares having achieved a turnover of 26.6 billion FCFA during the year 2018.
The restructuring process of the Cameroon airline company has just reached a new level, with the increase of more than 40% of its turnover in the space of one year. Indeed, the activities of this dying company just a few years ago, it results in an increase of 10 billion FCFA compared to the previous year when the cumulative turnover was 16.4 billion CFA. This significant turnaround is a general surprise for the company and for observers in general.
Based on this activity report, it appears that the turnover has increased from CFAF 5 billion in 2016 to CFAF 26.6 billion in two years, an increase according to the general director of CAMAIR -CO, Ernest Dikoum, which is explained by a “better rationalization” of resources. And yet, the state has largely reduced its support for this company, since the state subsidy that was still 15 billion FCFA a few years ago is only 3 billion FCFA currently. This means that the leaders of this company seem to have found the right way to definitely revive the “Etoile du Cameroun”.
Operating plan
According to analysts, the establishment of an operating plan with a focus on the national service, which ensures that eight of the ten regions of the country are served, then, the opening of lines in the Africa region Central and West explain this metamorphosis. In all likelihood, the elimination of European and Asian services have done more good to the company, even if their “progressive” opening is part of the company’s development plan.
However, it is said that the beginning of 2019 is rather difficult, as CAMAIR-CO, which has a fleet of six aircraft, saw three of them be immobilized for technical reasons. As a result, income earned in January amounted to 1.4 billion CFA francs, compared with a monthly average of 2.4 billion CFA francs recorded throughout 2018. In any case, The company intends to mobilize 2.5 billion CFA francs to get out of this turbulent zone by putting three leasing aircraft into service, while waiting for the refurbishment of the broken aircraft.
