The AfDB representative in Gabon, Robert Masumbuko, announced on February 12, 2019 that the institution has granted an envelope of 77 billion CFA francs to the country to rehabilitate 300 km of pipes of the drinking water network of Libreville and its periphery .
This project will allow people to have access to more drinking water in the capital and its surroundings. It will also have to increase the rate of access to drinking water from 25 to 85% in rural areas and from 45 to 95% in urban areas.
“There is a need for drinking water; this is why the government has made a firm commitment to rehabilitate 150 km of pipelines in drinking water, and with a construction of 150 new ones. This is a huge project whose ultimate goal is to ensure that the water stress experienced by the Gabonese population, is only a distant memory in a few months, “says Jean Marie Ogandaga, the Gabonese Minister of Economy who signed the agreement with the AfDB on behalf of the Gabonese government.
