Burkina Faso’s General Tax Directorate (DGI) launched, on February 12, 2019 in Ouagadougou, a comprehensive fiscal census of taxpayers taking place from February 13 to April 12, 2019 in the Center and Hauts-Bassins regions. Objective, identify and geotag around 500,000 taxpayers.
“We are about 55,000 taxpayers for the city of Ouagadougou. However, the activities are very developed and we should have more than one million taxpayers. So, we hope to have 10 times more taxpayers at the end of this operation, “said Jean-Paul Galbani, the coordinator of the project named Census Revenue 2019.
“There is just a small part that pays taxes and we expect to have about 500,000 taxpayers at the end of the operation. It is not a stalking, we ask according to the law that everyone can pay to the height of his means and to do this, it is necessary that the person is known and for that, it must be identified, “said Brahima Ouattara, regional director of taxes of the Hauts-Bassins region.
As a reminder, the budget law provides 918 billion CFA francs to recover by the DGI in 2018, an increase of 178 billion compared to that of 2017.
Note that the country faces several challenges including those related to security. Reason why the government wants to expand its base, and try to collect more resources internally.
