The European Union donated € 15 million to the Burkinabe government on February 26, 2019 in support of the solar plan called “Yeleen”. The envelope should be used as a contribution to improving access to energy and economic growth.
“This is a commitment we made at COP21 in Paris, which is to allow the countries of the South to develop and therefore industrialize, while being environmentally friendly. Only renewable energies can reconcile the two, “said Stefano Manservisi, Director General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission. And to emphasize that the country “is firmly committed to the path of renewable energy, namely solar energy and we must make this energy, the basis of development of Burkina Faso.”
The funded project involves the installation of 100 mini solar power plants in rural localities for 50,000 households and the deployment of 100,000 solar kits for 100,000 households by 2020.
