In Ivory Coast, every November 15 is dedicated to the celebration of peace. And this celebration is usually marked by reforestation operations. Beyond a simple symbolic, the Ivorian authorities have institutionalized this gesture to encourage each citizen to participate in reforestation and thus fight against the effects of global warming. Sutout that according to official figures, the country has lost more than 80% of its forests in half a century.
Côte d’Ivoire celebrates peace by planting trees. And LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast did not want to be outdone by this national momentum. The producer of Aries cement has therefore, through the operation # LHCIplantetaforêt, organized a planting of three thousand (3000) acacia seeds from 11 to 15 November 2019. Acacia, recognized for its rapid growth, absorbs twice as much of carbon than other species.
# LHCIplantetaforêt is an internal initiative of LafargeHolcim Côte d’Ivoire which is part of the national reforestation campaign whose goal is to plant one million trees. All employees received a bag of acacia seed seedballs, pellets of charcoal dust mixed with natural nutrient binders inside which are the seed for a pedagogical planting, fun and easy in family.
The students from the port city’s primary school joined this mobilization action by planting in the school yard with LafargeHolcim Côte d’Ivoire’s sustainable development teams and school leaders.
