China, the world’s leading economic power from 2024, ahead of the United States. As IMF data put into perspective by Statista shows, Asia continues to climb in the rankings of world economic powers while Africa is absent in the world top 10.
According to forecasts, the world’s top 5 countries with the highest GDP will be occupied by four Asian countries by 2024, relegating the European powers to a lower rank. China, whose economic growth exploded from the 1990s, is expected to see its GDP surpass that of the United States within four years and take the top spot.
India and Indonesia recently entered the top 10 economic powers and are expected to reach third and fifth place respectively in 2024. As for Japan, it is expected to remain in fourth place after being overtaken by its Chinese neighbor in 2010.
European countries will be only three to be among the ten major economic powers in 2024. Still according to IMF projections, Germany should be relegated to seventh place behind Russia, while the United Kingdom and France are expected in ninth and tenth position, just behind Brazil.
