The home of the president of the Nigerien National Assembly, Seïni Oumarou, came under submachine gun fire on the night of Friday to Saturday June 12 in Niamey. One of the close guards was shot dead, security sources said.
“On the night of Friday to Saturday, the home of the President of the National Assembly was attacked by two individuals on a motorcycle. They strafed the guards, killing one of them… They wanted to seize one of the guard vehicles, but there were no keys on it. They were able to flee, ”said a source.
The Interior Ministry confirmed in a statement the attack and immediately opened an investigation to, it says, find, identify and arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
This is the second attack on Seïni Oumarou’s home this year after that of February 23, when street protests launched by the opposition to challenge the victory of President Mohamed Bazoum had escalated. That day, one of the former premier’s guards was also killed, according to sources close to the ruling party.
President of the National Movement for the Development Society (Mnsd), Seïni Oumarou was ranked third in the first round of the presidential election, before joining forces with Mohamed Bazoum’s Pnds Tarayya party, winner of the second in the presidential election against Mahamane Ousmane of Rdr Tchanji.
