The third edition of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Mines and Petroleum Forum will be held in Niamey (Niger), from September 14 to 16, 2021.
Called Ecomof in English, the event will take place around the theme “Integrating the mining and oil industries in the development of regional value chains”. And will bring together the main decision-makers of the public and private sectors of the mining and oil industries of West Africa with the same objective set since the first edition: to promote and develop the mining and oil potentials of the Member States, to ensure socio-economic integration. economic development of the West African region, catalyze and develop artisanal and small-scale mining while harmonizing legal, regulatory and fiscal instruments.
Explaining the choice of Niamey for this edition, the organizers stress that “the Nigerien economy is developing rapidly because GDP growth was estimated at 6.2% in 2019 (…). Leader in uranium production in Africa, the Nigerien economy is growing strongly as it aims to diversify mining production, expand its investor base, develop infrastructure and position the country as a friendly market for investments in Mines and Petroleum ”.
Ecomof 2021 will be animated by an inaugural conference, trainings, trade exhibition, social and networking program and socio-cultural visits.
