The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2021) in Durban (South Africa) has succeeded in exceeding the targets of signed trade agreements. This event, which was initially supposed to generate 40 billion dollars, went beyond (42.1 billion dollars), according to the latest statistics published on Monday, November 29 by the advisory council.
These data, it is said, took into account additional data submitted by trade promotion agencies in Algeria, Nigeria and South Africa.
For Benedict Oramah, president of Afreximbank, these figures reflect “a well thought out platform, the diversity and depth of the goods and services presented and a rich program”.
Organized by the African Import-Export Bank (Afreximbank), the African Union (AU) and the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (Zlecaf), the IATF 2021 has enabled the conclusion of more than 500 agreements trade during 7 days of exchanges, exhibitions, and trade between companies and governments, and between governments as well.
“Despite the uncertain environment resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic situation, Iatf 2021 attracted exhibitors from 59 countries, including 46 African countries. Buyers, sellers and investors have come physically and virtually from all over Africa and beyond to connect and exchange information on trade, investment and the market. We have indeed started the process of building bridges for a successful Zlecaf, ”said Olusegun Obasanjo, Chairman of the IATF 2021 Advisory Board and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
