The agreement in the form of a highly concessional loan was initialed Monday, April 9, 2018 by the Minister of Economy and Finance of Mali, Malado Kaba and the Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), Patricia Aubras, in presence of the Director General of the Guinea Water Company (SEG).
According to a World Health Organization study conducted in 2015, only 67% of the population in Guinea had access to drinking water. It is against this situation that France through AFD has decided to support the Guinean government to support it in a global program of impetus for the promotion of investment and institutional strengthening of the sector. drinking water through a set of actions initiated since 2013.
This € 30 million financing, in the form of a highly concessional loan to the Republic of Guinea, will, according to Guinean officials, improve the commercial and technical performance of the Guinea Water Company ( SEG) and secondly to maintain the industrial tool in Conakry and inland.
On the side of AFD, the director pointed out that the present convention proposes to reduce leaks and to increase the sales and the recovery on Conakry by deploying, agency by agency, a program already tested on three commercial agencies of the company Guinean waters (Kaloum on own funds, Matam financed by BM and Dixinn with AFD financing).
“The project will start on the agencies of the municipality of Matoto and later expand to the town of Ratoma. The rehabilitations and renewals will allow the establishment of better management of fixed assets, “she hinted.
The Minister of Economy and Finance has declared that the signing of this loan agreement for the water sector is intended to improve the technical and commercial performance of the agencies of the municipalities of Matoto and Ratoma as well as the renewal of obsolete equipment at the Conakry drinking water production sites and the 25 indoor centers managed by SEG.
“This is funding that will contribute to the implementation of national priorities agreed with donors at the 2016 Water Roundtable. in place a National Investment Program for the Water Sector by 2022.
This AFD financing is part of the announcements made by France during the November 2017 Consultative Group.
