The ARTCI, the regulator of the telecommunications sector in Côte d’Ivoire, conducted this April 16 the first tests on the portability of mobile numbers.
Portability allows you to keep your mobile number even when you switch operators. The project, entrusted to the internet access provider VIPNET in June 2017 after a call for tenders, will, once operational, upset habits in an Ivorian market where the penetration rate is estimated at 127.7%. % with 31.75 million subscriptions at the end of 2017, according to the regulator’s figures.
In fact, the quality of service remains a challenge. An insufficiency that had led the ARTCI to impose pecuniary sanctions of 5 billion CFA francs to the operators last September. Portability will therefore boost competition and customer satisfaction will be at the heart of the issues.
According to the statistics of the ARTCI, at the end of 2017, Orange retains its position of market leader with 41% of subscriptions (13.12 million subscribers), against 34% for MTN (10.89 million) and 25% for Moov (7.73 million).
