The Mayor of Cotonou City, Isidore Gnonlonfoun, and the National Coordinator of the Millennium Challenge Account-Benin II, Gabriel Dégbégni, signed an agreement on 22 January 2019 for the construction of some solar power plants in the Beninese capital. Objective, to provide people with energy quality, efficient and reliable to reduce the energy deficit in the city.

The two sites that are located in the 3rd and 12th districts of Cotonou will be intended for the construction of solar power plants, said the coordinator who recalled that “the project is part of the requirements of the grant agreement signed between the government of the United States and Benin “.
In December 2017, an agreement was signed for the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Account-Benin II (Mca-Benin II) program with Benin’s Beninese power utility (Sbee). “The Mca-Benin II program must truly transform Benin’s energy sector,” said the Minister of Energy.
