The US company Kosmos Energy intends to divest 10% of its shares in the Grand Turtle / Ahmedine gas field, located 125 kilometers off the coasts of Mauritania and Senegal.
This announcement was made recently in London on the sidelines of Financial Markets Day.
For the moment nothing has been finalized, but the talks are open to all major firms interested in entering the block capital where resources are estimated at more than 25 Tcf of natural gas.
Last December, Senegal and Mauritania signed an agreement for the final investment decision on the GTA project where the sharing of production will be 50-50.
According to estimates, the first gas production is expected in 2021 with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year on average.
In Mauritania, Kosmos Energy owns 28% of the shares, British Petroleum, BP (62%) and the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons and Mining Corporation (10%).
For Senegal, Kosmos Energy controls 30% of the shares, BP (60%) and the Senegal Oil Company (10%).
In pooling resources (Mauritania and Senegal), Kosmos is left with 29%, BP 61%, PETROSEN 5% and SMHPM 5%.
