The year 2018 ended on a positive note marked notably by a strong growth in the 4th quarter of the year, MTN Cameroon having recorded an 11.7% growth of its subscribers’ pool which was close to 8 millions of subscribers as of December 31, 2018. On the basis of this document, MTN Cameroon also achieved a sustained performance on new sources of revenue, including a sharp increase in revenue generated by Data and an exceptional growth of 170.2% in income generated by the Mobile Money whose number of subscribers is consolidating to nearly 5 million at 31 December 2018.
Admittedly, the turnover was impacted by the crisis in the North West and Southwest regions where the company controls more than 60% of the market, with nearly 8 million subscribers. But on arrival and thanks to the growth of some services such as Mobile Money, the subsidiary of the South African multinational is doing pretty well, controlling 47.20% of Cameroonian market shares. Statistics, says MTN, which “strengthen its leadership in the telecommunications market in Cameroon”, reason why “the company looks to the future with optimism, driven by the exceptional performance recorded at the end of the year “.
Commenting on the results, the managing director, Hendrik Kasteel, believes that “MTN Cameroon is back. Bold steps were taken last year to put our company back on the road to growth. These measures are beginning to produce positive results. We have also begun to reap the benefits of MTN’s nearly 300 billion FCFA investments over the last four years to better serve our customers and provide them with the best network in the country; a network certified by the Ookla International Agency as the fastest mobile Internet network in Cameroon “.
The MTN Group, the African telecommunications leader, present in 21 countries around the world, including Cameroon, published March 07, 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa, its consolidated financial results for the year 2018.
