The President of Equatorial Guinea, the Secretary General of OPEC and 20 African Ministers of Oil and Gas will host Africa’s largest gathering in the energy sector. The Cape VII congress and exhibition of the African Organization of Petroleum Producers, to be held from April 2 to 5 in Malabo, is expected to bring together the top officials of the oil and gas sector, the main ministers of energy of the continent and international political leaders.
President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea and Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, will speak at the seventh summit of the African Petroleum Producing Countries (APPO CAPE VII), scheduled to open on April 2 in Malabo .
● APPO Secretary-General Mahaman Laouan Gaya and Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, will brief on the fundamental reforms of the African Organization of Petroleum Producers.
● Similarly, Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, Secretary General of OPEC; Dr Sun Xiansheng, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum and HE Yury Sentyurin, Secretary General of the Forum for Gas Exporting Countries (GECF) will speak at APPO CAPE VII
● APPO CAPE VII should see the participation of more than 50 African oil ministries, national oil companies and private companies as exhibitors and sponsors.
The event will focus on policy reforms, Africa’s influence on the geopolitics of energy, and strengthening cooperation among African countries. In total, the conference will bring together more than 20 African governments, more than a dozen national oil companies and more than 50 exhibitors and sponsors.
Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, President of the African Petroleum Producers Organization and Minister of State for Petroleum of the Republic of Nigeria, will outline the fundamental reforms of the APPO and its goal of creating a pool of African oil producers on the international scene. . New discoveries in Africa, from Mozambique to Namibia to Namibia, Senegal and Mauritania, have sparked renewed interest in exploration and production in Africa, which means that the APPO is ready to welcome new producers.
Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, Secretary General of OPEC; Dr. Sun Xiansheng, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum and HE Yury Sentyurin, Secretary General of the Forum for Gas Exporting Countries (GECF) will also speak at the OPPA summit.
In a context in which Africa is playing an increasingly important role in OPEC’s discussions following the entry of Equatorial Guinea into the cartel in 2017, the Malabo Summit will establish the exchange program of African producers with producers and global markets in 2019 and beyond.

Various African ministers are expected in Malabo. They include Tarek El-Molla, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum, Jeff Radebe, South Africa’s Minister of Energy; Pascal Houangni Ambouroué, Minister of Petroleum and Hydrocarbons of Gabon; Abdourahmane Cissé, Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Development of Renewable Energies of Côte d’Ivoire will address the issue of oil and gas infrastructure and regional cooperation within the OPPA.
