The former director of the United Nations Food Organization (FAO), Jaques Diouf, died Saturday (August 17th) in France at the age of 81 (1938/2019).
A tireless advocate of the fight against poverty and social inequality in the world, the first African to be elected director of the UN agency in charge of food marked his passage at the level of the institution.
During his 17 years at the head of the FAO (1994/2011), the native of Saint-Louis had as his sole credo the significant reduction in the proportion of people suffering from extreme poverty and hunger in the world.
Graduate of the national school of agronomy of grignon (agro Paris Tech), the Senegalese diplomat was until then special advisor to the Senegalese president, Macky sall and guinean, Alpha Condé in the field of agriculture.
Note that Jaques Diouf has held several positions of responsibility, having been Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Senegal to the United Nations, Secretary General of the Central Bank of the States of West Africa (BCEAO) in Dakar. The Senegalese politician was also special advisor to the governor of the Central Bank.
