BADEA and FAO formalized their long-standing partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the “High Level Dialogue on Africa’s Food: Leadership to Scale Up Successful Innovations”, co-organized the 29 and April 30, 2021 by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Agricultural Development Fund (IFAD) in collaboration with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
BADEA and FAO have collaborated on many projects in different African countries. But, in the BADEA 2030 strategy, such a convention, signed jointly by the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), QU Dongyu, and the Director-General of BADEA, Dr Sidi Ould Tah, should intensify and expand the framework of work between the two institutions to include the following areas: agricultural infrastructure development, private sector engagement in agriculture and market information; development of agricultural value chains, including agri-investment; capacity and entrepreneurship / skills development, especially for women and youth along various agricultural value chains; pastoralism, increased production and productivity including animal health, productivity of sustainable agriculture and food systems, climate smart agriculture, sustainable development of the rice value chain and early warning systems and agricultural forecasts.
Created in 1975, BADEA is owned by eighteen member states of the Arab League. In 46 years of existence, the international financial institution, with a capital of 4.2 billion US dollars, has established itself as one of the main channels of solidarity between the Arab world and Africa. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is the specialized United Nations agency leading international efforts to end hunger. The institution was established in 1945 for food, in its broadest sense, which includes agriculture, forestry, fisheries and industries directly related to food.
