The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts a growth rate of 10.8 for Senegal in 2023, making the country the most dynamic economy in terms of growth.
In its recent report entitled “Regional Economic Perspectives Sub-Saharan Africa: One Planet, Two Worlds, Three Realities” published in October, the institution indicates that Senegal is one of the countries that recorded the largest jump in terms of points since for 2022 , this rate is expected at 5.5%. A dynamism which should result, according to the IMF, by a gain of 5.3 points, in only two years, for the country.
On the continent, Senegal ranks in the top three economies with the highest growth rate behind Mozambique (12.6%) and ahead of Niger (10.4%).
“These three countries, which must record a double-digit growth rate, all have one thing in common, that is to say the discovery and the active phase of the exploitation of hydrocarbons for the year 2023”, notes the report.
Still in its projections, the IMF stresses that some countries, new hydrocarbon producers will follow this trio, in particular Mauritania with a rate of 8.6%. Rwanda with a projection of 8.1% in terms of growth rate is also one of the best performances for 2023.
