“The most beautiful commune”, a citizens’ initiative set up to help Ivorian local communities to be financially autonomous, organized a round table on the theme: “UEMOA capital market and financing of communities in Côte d’Ivoire” .
In Côte d’Ivoire, like most countries in sub-Saharan Africa, local communities are totally dependent on government funding. And very often the allocated budgets are below the needs of the populations. To remedy this, an initiative called “The Most Beautiful Municipality” was set up and assigned as missions “the search for solidarity funding, financial advice to local elected officials, lobbying and evaluation of citizens’ initiatives. at the service of the community ”.
According to Mariam Cissé Ellogne, president of the “The most beautiful municipality” committee, the program set up aims to empower people on best practices, as well as to evaluate and reward local citizen initiatives.
To launch its activities, the committee organized a round table on the theme “UEMOA capital market and financing of communities in the Ivory Coast”.
The panel led by Louis Speet Amédée, director general of the National Federation of Industries and Services of Côte d’Ivoire, instructed on the funding available to support local communities and the possibility of having recourse to the State guarantee in the framework of the loan in order to strengthen the security mechanism. The speakers also outlined solutions relating both to budget management and planning as well as to the instruments available to develop and sustain the financial resources specific to the communities.
