The president of Pepsi, Ravi Jaipuria, announced on February 12, 2022 in Kinshasa, the start of the group’s investments in the DRC with the kick-off, next April, of the construction site of a factory in the Congolese capital and a another in Lubumbashi (Haut-Katanga) to initiate the local manufacture of drinks and the entire range of the world-renowned brand.
“This is a large capital investment. We are going to set up a factory here in Kinshasa and another in Lubumbashi. Soon the Congolese will be consumers of a very good product at a good price. It will be a full range of the Pepsi company including Mirinda, Sevenup, Pepsi, etc. said Ravi Jaipuria after an audience with Congolese Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde. And to add that the Congolese youth, and particularly the ladies, will have employment in these production units.
The expectations of the Congolese government in the investment of the Pepsi group had been expressed by the Minister of Industry, Julien Paluku Kahongya, on October 6, 2021 in Harare (Zimbabwe) where he was on an official mission. “The objective of the head of government is to multiply a lot of industries to create enough jobs. We can confirm to everyone that the work we have done in Zimbabwe has shown us that the firm Varun Beverages is the representative of the big firm Pepsi,” he explained.
On this occasion, on behalf of the Congolese government, on October 17, 2021, he signed a contract for the construction of manufacturing plants for Pepsi products in the DRC with the company Varun Beverages/Pepsi, represented by its Managing Director, Iyer Shankar.
