Today, on June 19, 2024, the Minister of State in charge of Justice, Human Rights Promotion, and Good Governance, Keeper of the Seals, Dr. Arnaud DJOUBAYE ABAZENE, officially launched a national awareness campaign against corruption in the judicial sector. Entitled “Together, Let’s Fight Against Corruption in the CAR”, this campaign is carried out with the support of the European Union and the operator Altair Asesores. It aims to raise awareness among citizens to denounce abuses, especially corruption, and to inform victims about the measures to take to assert their rights.
The main messages of the campaign emphasize that laws exist to protect citizens and ensure fair justice for all. Citizens are encouraged to reject corruption committed by judicial actors, to be informed of their rights, and to denounce illegal practices. In case of abuse, it is possible to report the corruption of judicial actors, and citizens are invited to take action by filing a complaint with the Public Prosecutor, the Attorney General, or the competent General Inspection of Judicial Services.
Four debates will take place in youth centers in Bangui, involving local justice actors, neighborhood chiefs, traditional and religious authorities, and civil society organizations. Awareness materials, such as a two-minute animated film and educational flyers, will be presented during these activities.
Simultaneously, radio broadcasts, including a radio theater play and awareness spots, will be aired throughout the campaign. These programs revolve around three axes: shedding light on the bad practices affecting the judicial system, reminding the importance of denouncing these practices and respecting laws, and explaining in an accessible way to citizens the means to assert their rights in case of abuse.
The campaign runs from June 19 to June 30, 2024, across the entire territory of the Central African Republic. At the official launch, the Minister of State in charge of Justice, Dr. Arnaud DJOUBAYE ABAZENE, delivered a speech at the ministry hall in Bangui before a gathering of high magistrates, emphasizing the importance of this fight to ensure impartial and effective justice. He quoted the President of the Republic, highlighting the need for quality justice and calling on judicial actors to respect the laws. The Minister also mentioned the disciplinary measures recently taken against magistrates, lawyers, and notaries involved in acts of corruption. He called for a general mobilization against corruption for the development of the Central African Republic.
