Organizer
The Interbank Electronic Banking Group of the WAEMU (GIM-UEMOA), an international organization, was established in 2003 by the BCEAO (Central Bank of West African States) and banks to implement a regional interbank electronic withdrawal and payment system. Today, GIM-UEMOA brings together over 130 banks, financial and postal institutions, microfinance structures, and electronic money issuers.
GIM-UEMOA is engaged in three main activities:
- Payment Scheme: This involves providing a payment application and specifications for issuing regional bank cards and other payment instruments, as well as managing the related operational governance framework.
- Switching: Ensures the interoperability of electronic transactions for all market participants (routing, settlement of card and mobile transactions, e-commerce, money transfer, etc.).
- Processing: Involves outsourcing and technical processing by delegation of electronic products and services. Processing covers several strategic areas of activity, including acceptance services, security, composite payments, dematerialization services, centralization of flows, cash monetization, and mobile payments.
