A Major Event for Climate Change Adaptation
Climate Chance, in partnership with the city of Marseille, is organizing the Climate Chance Europe Africa Summit 2025 on the theme “Adaptation: Moving into Action”, to be held on March 31st and April 1st, 2025, at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille. This event is the largest gathering ever organized on adaptation to climate change.
Marseille, a strategic city at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, is the perfect location to address the specific climate challenges of the Mediterranean basin and share solutions tailored to European and African contexts. This summit will promote dialogue and cooperation between European and African stakeholders to build a more resilient future in the face of climate change.
Summit Objectives
- Highlight existing adaptation practices and solutions, emphasizing local efforts in different regions.
- Facilitate the sharing of climate resilience strategies, inspired by local initiatives, particularly in Africa.
- Create opportunities for collaboration between public, private, and civil society actors to enhance adaptation efforts in response to climate challenges.
Event Program
The summit will span two days with a diverse program, including:
- Plenary sessions and interactive workshops
- Pitch sessions and activities
- Expert interventions and field-based experience sharing
The main themes will focus on adaptation strategies, local solutions, and innovative initiatives implemented in different regions.
Main Sub-Themes
The four main sub-themes of the summit are:
- Strengthening Europe-Africa cooperation for effective adaptation to climate change.
- Mobilizing territories to promote locally tailored adaptation solutions.
- Reinventing our systems to provide sustainable responses to climate challenges.
- Increasing knowledge and sharing data to enhance the effectiveness of adaptation actions.
Each sub-theme will be explored from different perspectives, providing a comprehensive and in-depth view of the issues and solutions to be implemented.
The “Marseille Declaration”
At the conclusion of the summit, a “Marseille Declaration” will be adopted, presenting strategic recommendations for territorial adaptation. This advocacy document will serve as a foundation for upcoming global climate events and contribute to strengthening collective adaptation efforts at the European and international levels.
The 1st Assessment of Adaptation Actions in Europe
Climate Chance Observatory
The summit will also feature the presentation of the 1st Assessment of Adaptation Actions in Europe conducted by the Climate Chance Observatory. This report, aimed at European policymakers at the local, national, and EU levels, will address the climate risks facing European territories and the concrete actions being taken to address them. It will examine challenges related to human health, the economy, and infrastructure, and will include case studies to illustrate actions taken on the ground.
